From a preview, I deduced that it was an Indian musical about cricket. My reaction was Must go see the freakiest premise for a movie ever! and so i did.
It really is an Indian musical about cricket.
It is also four and a half hours long. I wonder if Americans aren't used to arty films, or if other countries just have a higher tolerance for long meaningful gazes... Something's going on there though, because the two people I saw it with were whining through the whole movie.
*note to self- do not take roommate and A. to see foreign films. Go alone and bond with cute ticket vendor at intermission.
In any case I loved it. (How could you not? It's a frigging Indian musical about cricket.) I came away highly confused as to how one keeps score in the game, but I think this was because they were playing a three day exhibition match and not a regular game. Eh.
It's rather distubing that I know how to score cricket at all, but somewhere down the line, some one taught me how. Random bits of knowledge! At your service.
