Nov. 5th, 2003 04:22 pmEeek! (This is a statement representative of my current mental state. Just sharing.)
I have survived the worst day of my academic year (OH GOD PLEASE LET THAT HAVE BEEN IT) and I am celebrating by slacking something awful. Yes, I have homework due tomorrow. No, I am not doing it. Yes, I am a page behind on nanomango. No, I am not drawing. Mostly instead of doing productive things, I took a three hour nap. Please, don't let your jealousy run rampant. And at work today, I amused myself by reading Arabic love poetry to everyone who walked by my desk.
I have neurotic handwriting. I clench my pen like an illiterate forty year old man, and my words are made up of scribbles that almost-vaguely represent letters, but not. The only letters I can positively identify are "b" "p" "d" and "q" because no matter which one I was trying for, I write the wrong one, and it is symbolized by a large scribbled out spot. (I don't read my writing so much as decipher it.)
But. I love my handwriting in Arabic. I love the loops and dashes and the syntax, and posture of holding your wrist above the paper just so. I feel about Arabic the same way some women feel about high fashion. It makes me elegant, beautiful, mysterious. (Also dotty, but we're not going to carry the analogy too far.)
I wanted to post my favorite line, but it appears I have no arabic fonts (!) the closest I can come is a phonetic transcription- tara'ibuha masqulatun kassagangali- and that just doesn't feel the same.
I am listening to Natalie Merchant in a very >:O way. " !!>:O Not that song! >:O!! Not that one either!!" I was under the impression that I liked her before this. I guess mostly I just like singing along to the "la la la la la la" part of "Kind and Generous."
New band that I love (BUT IS NOT MY FAVORITE) this week: Baxter. Mmm, trip-hop. Also: Porcupine Tree. How is your life today? (I am madly amused by the song "Stop Swimming" because I keep thinking to myself "It's a lot like Swimming" and ... just. HA. Yeah.)
My computer treats the Syrian national anthem like a virus. This is funny and disturbing at the same time.
