Where I've been:

aintbrokeAs is often the case, deadlines make me procrastinate. In this ten-day countdown to Peru; I’ve passed, passed and failed my EMT basic tests, taken a toothpaste tour of New Mexico, been on a two-night backpacking trip, and run a half marathon.
I have not begun to pack.
It’s been nice, though. My EMT-B test was, geez, I just don’t even have words for how much easier it was than expected. (Which explains how I managed to fail my medical-practical exam. My patient was having an asthma attack. Not, you’ll notice, the cocaine induced asthma attack complicated by hypoglycemia and mid-shaft femur fractures that I am prepared to treat. Sure, the simple asthma attack is easier to treat, and it’s more likely what I’ll see, out in the world, but… there’s just so little to do for it. So little, that, you’ll note, I forgot to take a full patient history. See if I’m ever nervous before one of these things again.)
My tour of the state gave me a chance to see all those lovely people that I’ve fallen out of contact with. It’s nice to have friends that you can just reconnect with, the sort where years apart aren’t a production, just a handy sort of flow back into where we were before. This trip also gave me the opportunity to sample every flavor of toothpaste known to man. (I’m generally good at packing, but am pathologically incapable of taking toothpaste with me when I travel. I don’t get it, but there it is.)
My little sister’s birthday was Wednesday, and following the family tradition, we went on a back-packing trip. We took along the kiddo’s boyfriend of almost a year, who is a outdoorsy sort. This was weird. (He is dating. My sister! Eek.) Behind the cut is a picture of her enjoying her birthday cake.
God only knows what Mike is doing there.
My mini-marathon is over. That’s really the best that can be said for it. Look! I don’t like running! I never have! It’s boring and tedious, and somehow, I cannot stop doing it. I finished thirty-fifth, out of ninety-seven, and I plan never to run again.
LASTLY:
We leave for Peru on Tuesday, and I have not yet complied postcard addresses. (I get that for a lot of you, postcards from New Mexico would almost be as exotic, but I can’t get behind the idea of sending people postcards of green chili or hot air balloons.)
So, who wants a postcard? You can either leave it as a comment, or email it to me @ whilst at gmail dot com
