Well, la de dah.

Back at work. Updating LJ has taken priority to working with things that I ought to have finished before I left.

Feeling a bit guilty about that.

I can't switch the order of the read'ments/write'ments links, and I am getting frustrated. It may have something to do with this hulking visgoth of a computer... but chances are it's just me.

"Hulking Visgoth" is the new insult of choice, and perhaps the best thing to come out of the Mundial World Cup 2002, since Senegal lost. I was enjoying their victory dances.

My work has piled up around my ears since i got back, and now we're having a birthday party this afternoon and how the hell am I supposed to get even the "Gah, URGENT please, please, please get this done now!" things done before the end of the day? (If it only has two "pleases" on it it gets shuffled to the bottom of the "urgent" pile.

But, you know, cake is good. Really oughtn't complain about cake.

Last night at das book club, (which by the way is expanding like nobody’s business, making me very glad to be one of the first late comers, and not one of the “powers that be”) we managed to discuss everything, except, of course, the book. This was mostly by mutual agreement before the meeting. Everyone felt that the book, Between Two Fires, was horrible and obviously nothing more than a pathetic money grubbing ploy…

So we sat around and discussed moving as young children, our families, relationships, college, where our lives are and where they’re going. It wasn’t a large group- ten of us- men and women (and me- “the child”), couples, singles and ex’s, locals and newcomers, parents and children. Funnily enough we all have different perspective on who, what, where, when, and why.

I’m easily amused- but I still think that the coolest thing to come out of this discussion was the realization (not ours, Naava had learned it in an Anthropology class years ago) that Star Wars (which I still haven’t seen) and the Wizard of Oz are the same story.

Work with me here- adolescent, living with an Aunt and Uncle (parents are out of the picture) in the middle of nowhere, is taken to a different, magical world. They are accompanied by a metal man (C3PO/Tin Man), a cute pet (R2-D2/Toto), a furry creature (Chewbaca/The Lion), and a man who doesn’t know his worth (Hans Solo/The Scarecrow). A good and powerful person (Obi Wan Kenobi/Glenda) helps them to confront the bad guy who the hero(ine) has a history with.

Coincidence? Perhaps not. In any case, I found it amusing.
