Nov. 1st, 2005 10:44 pmEvidently, November is "hello, I am a big fan of ridiculous deadlines" month.
I mean, we start with the granddady of silly projects, the NaNoWriMo project. (It's just been pointed out to me that I've been pronouncing this wrong, and it's true, the WRI part should be said more like "rye" than "whree" but it sounds even stupider that way, and I like to do what I can for the dignity of ... honestly, I have no idea where I was going with that sentence.)
And, OH, I thought that was crazy. But, no, no. That's not as bad as it gets. Because, from there, all the other creative folks in the universe got incensed and demanded their own ludicrous deadline. Now there's NaNoMangO (The thirty-comic-pages in a month) challenge, and Art by the Inch (which encourages people to make ten thousand inches of art in a month, which is a goal I in no way find completely insane.), and NaSoAlMo (National Solo Album Month). There's ArtSoMoFo and WriAShoStoWe for the lazier among us, and the lj specific icon100 and drabble100 challenges. Some people are using this hive-mind madness for productive purposes; someone on my friends list is lobbying for the creation of App2GradSchoMo.
And here is my statement on the whole subject: I can not write the paper that is due on Thursday, nor have I begun studying for my test on the same day. I truly, honestly, think all you people are insane, but I am looking forward to the results, come December.
