Dear America, and Americans:

I understand that few to none of you are excited about cricket. Don't worry, not that long ago, I was in your shoes. Then I came to Jamaica, home to pick-up mid-street games of cricket, host to this year's World Cup Cricket. Were you unaware of third largest international sporting event? It's third to World Cup Football and the Olympics, so it's in pretty esteemed company.

My new fear about Peace Corps is that I'm going to come back to America, not just loving football (soccer) at levels that Americans just don't understand, but also, now, passionate about cricket. How can you not love discusing sports where you say things like "they're thirty five for five! Oh, the SHAME!" or "Three ducks in a row! That's just sad" or "How is it even possible to bat a century in a one day match anyway?"

My point is: people, cricket is awesome.

I am going to a match today, to see the West Indies (of which Jamaica is a proud member!) play Ireland. I may be wearing World Cup themed clothing. My levels of excitement are probably totally inappropriate for someone who's never actually held a cricket bat.

You only wish you were as cool as me today.
