Have you tried using a t-square? Perhaps a hinged t-square?

The problem with T-squares, is that you need the space to use them. Space, my friend, is exactly what I haven't got. Hinged T-squares on the other hand, are an invention of the devil himself. Either that, or I am just incompetent like mad, and can't use them.

So far, what's actually working has been the old "edge of a piece of paper" trick. Don't ask me why that works better than a real ruler.
